UN Secretary-General calls for a global ceasefire
With the world facing the ongoing battle with Covid-19 and a race to find a vaccination and sustainable treatment drugs, the United Nations has recognized the threat and has put forth a request to assist in curving the threat of this virus. While most organizations, governments, and businesses have turned their attention to reducing the mortality rate and getting supplies to medical personnel, the United Nations has put forth a call for peace.
On the United Nations’ official website, UN Secretary-General António Guterres has not only called on countries where the United Nations has humanitarian missions but has formally called for a globally implemented ceasefire. Guterres reminded viewers on the video that those countries that are in the midst of war also have the issue of political and governmental upheaval while medical and humanitarian professionals in those areas are also targets of violence. Guterres went on to that “It is time to put armed conflict on lockdown and focus together on the true fight of our lives”. (un.org, 2020).

Also on Guterres’s Twitter account, he continued to drive the message and to focus on the Covid-19 pandemic.
